Kids Gardening

The majority of kids are fond of playing in the dirt; hence gardening has an integral benefit as an enjoyable activity. In order to encourage young children in having their own exclusive garden, one should start in a small way

One can motivate them by allowing them to identify what they will grow. Walking along the seed packet isle should attract them with the pictures. One should try to draw their attention towards plants that grow fast such as, radishes, peas and cucumbers. Children who are small are interested in large seeds for example corn, beans, peas and sunflowers.

In all likelihood kids will select vegetable they like to eat. Generally the space of a kid's garden is limited, so one should adhere to a smaller variety of plants. The inclusion of some flowers is a good idea. Brilliant flowers that are identical in height to that of the child, like zinnias and cosmos, will be a source of great attraction for the kids and also give them the opportunity for removing them from the garden and bringing them indoors. Sunflowers are highly attractive and children are astonished with the height of the plants that can reach up to an impressive 8 feet.

Kids should be encouraged with sowing the seeds. Certain types of the seeds may be too small for t5iny fingers, but they should be provided with suitable assistance in covering the seeds with soil.

Garden journal

  • In a bid to keep the kids involved until the plants surface, one can encourage them to commence a garden journal.
  • Pictures of what they guess the plants will appear like can be drawn by them.
  • They can put down the dates on which they planted the seeds and when they first witnessed a sprout emerging can be jotted down in the journal.
  • The journal can be maintained all through the garden season with additional notes and pictures of the garden including even the pictures of the bugs that frequent the garden.
  • One should ensure that they make notes on what they take pleasure in most bout gardening.

To initiate gardening activities, one should choose a site that is sunny in the backyard close to where the kids play or frequently walk along. The more they have a glimpse of their garden, the more they'll observe transformations. One should try to restrict the size of the garden to approximately 4' x 4'. If an individual does not possess a yard, he can still, maintain a garden in pots on a patio or inside on a windowsill, if proper facilities are available a garden can be created even in the room.

It should be borne in mind that kids derive a great of pleasure in playing with dirt. One should permit them to assist in the preparation of the soil. Providing the children with kid sized tools will increase their involvement to a great extent and make them interested in the project all the more.
